Curious rare cards: EQ, Fungus, Rejuvenation, Burn Card, Clepsydra, Innovation What's the system to determining rarity? atm i don't think there is any real determining factor of rarity except for shards and nymphs.

A lot of it comes from this post:http://elementscommunity.org/forum/general-discussion/openetg/msg1130920/?topicseen#msg1130920
It sounded good to me so I did most of the rarities suggestions there. Read my post directly after it for more info of my response. I don't think any one else commented the list at the time. Of course rarities can be changed if there are good reasons, just like any other change.

There have been several discussions on the merits and pitfalls of rarity in EtG itself... One tricky thing to remember, however, is that openEtG has a much different card economy than standard EtG. We have no bazzar, but use packs instead (which allow you to pick what rarity level you are trying to get ahold of). We also allow card trading. That's a big difference from standard EtG.
Still, I think many of the points brought up in CI&A discussions will be valid. The most important one to me is that it is important that rarity should not equal extra power (or more importantly, overpowered compared to non-rare). Several members have mentioned that the more rare a card is, the more important it becomes for it to be well balanced. I very much agree with that sentiment. Otherwise new players can become very frustrated that they can't build a decent starting deck without grinding for hours to get high rarity cards.

My thoughts: Rarity should definitely absolutely not correlate to power. IMO, rarity should primarily correlate to number of archetypes that can use a given card. i.e. things that have very weird niche uses should be rarer, and things that are used in many different decks/types of decks should be commoner. To a lesser extent, things that are used in low numbers of copies (i.e. most weapons, shields) should be rarer and things that are useful primarily with six copies should be commoner.
